Welcome to BASF Antwerp, the second largest production site of the BASF group, and the largest chemical company in Belgium. We are looking for a Data engineer who wants to be part of our fascinating company.

Your challenge

As a Data engineer you will reinforce the Data Analytics team and contribute to digital transformation projects with high impact. You will support the valorization and usage of data, enabling the organization to make data-informed decisions. As such you will work on one of the key strategic action items of the BASF group.

  • You make technical decisions and improve our data platform which is built on a combination of open-source and proprietary technologies.
  • You convert complex operational problems into robust and performant solutions on which the organization can rely.
  • You work in a multidisciplinary team and have a big impact on the provided service for our internal customers (e.g. within operations, finance or site-logistics).
  • You share, translate and discuss your insights and findings with various technical and non-technical stakeholders. As Albert Einstein once said: ‘If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough’.
  • You inspire and inform our team on technology trends in the domain of data engineering.
  • You help shape our data environment and the way this environment is used.

Your profile

  • You have a master's in computer science or a related field and at least 3 years of experience in data engineering or software development.
  • You are a pragmatic and persistent problem-solver.
  • You are passionate about the following data-intensive applications and know how to design and operate them:
    • Python3, experience with data-related libraries is a plus.
    • Version control systems (GIT) and continuous deployment pipelines (such as Azure DevOps, GitLab or CI/CD-technology).
    • Database and data-storage technology (SQL, no-SQL).
    • Cloud-native technology and working with a cloud-provider (preferably Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience within the chemical process industry and/or with specific systems used in such a context (e.g. LIMS and PIMS systems) is a plus.

Our offer

  • A challenging and dynamic job in a nice working atmosphere in a stable company.
  • A warm welcome during our onboarding days and guidance by a BASF buddy.
  • A growing salary package with numerous options (tablet / laptop / smartphone for private use, …), a mobility budget (lease bicycle, lease car, ...), yearly bonus, a fixed net remuneration, various fringe benefits, a pension plan, hospitalization and outpatient insurance for you and your family, ...
  • A good work-life balance! You will have flexible working hours and 38 vacation days. Occasional homeworking is certainly possible as well.
  • A well-filled stomach due to our extensive offer in the company restaurant, monthly fruit distribution and meal vouchers.
  • Alternative ways to get to the site such as free bus transport, carpool options, ...
  • Opportunities for self-development through a wide range of training courses and an internal job market.
